Scottish Staycation: King of the Castle

When Ayrshire’s Glenapp Castle reopened last month, the Relais & Chateaux five-star hotel also unveiled a brand-new penthouse suite, and, complete with full butler service and private chef, it’s seriously special. Spread across 4,500 sq ft, The Endeavour has been created by converting the entire top floor of the Castle and looks set to establish a new standard for luxury and refinement. The space consists of four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a private kitchen and lounge with dining room for up to 16 guests, a media room with seating for 12, sauna, library, a games room, a private lift and personal treatment room for massages and beauty therapies. The exquisite apartment also offers exclusive access to the historic roof and ramparts of the Castle. Here, guests can soak up the romantic views of Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Arran, the Mull of Kintyre and, on a particularly clear day, Ireland, or spend their evenings stargazing. Inside, traditional furnishings and carefully curated works of art have been mixed with modern luxuries to stunning effect. Inspired by the location of the Castle on the beautiful Ayrshire coast, along with its maritime history, nautical themes are subtly reflected in the décor. Proprietor Paul Szkiler, who has been dreaming of creating the penthouse since acquiring the hotel six years ago, says: “We believe The Endeavour penthouse apartment provides a world class destination in both its unique setting and surroundings and in providing a standard of service from a bygone era.”
