Our Favourite Summer Face Masks and Skincare

Summer is the season of minimal make-up and glowy skin, so show yours some TLC with these face masks and beauty gadgets

Nothing says “treat yo’self” quite like taking 15 minutes out of your day for a face mask. Whether they’re are part of your daily skincare routine or more of a one-off pampering treat, there’s a formula out there to pep up every skin type. Sliced cucumbers at the ready? Here are 10 masks and gadgets we’ve been loving this month.

1. The holiday one…

MasqueBAR Aloe Vera After Sun Bio Cellulose Mask
Even with the best of intentions during the morning SPF slather, a day in the sun can leave you looking more than a little rosy come evening. This new launch from masqueBar is a suitcase must-have for anyone heading to warmer climes this summer. Essentially an aftersun in mask form, the moisturising formula contains extracts of natural aloe vera to soothe sun-burned skin and banish redness.
RRP: £4.99

2. The manual one…

SENSSE Facial Contour Definer
You’ll get a few odd looks when you whip out this curious-looking device from your make-up bag, but it might just be the skincare step your routine has been missing: a DIY facial massage. The roller at the end perfectly fits the contours of every face shape; simply use with your usual moisturiser or facial oil to knead away any muscle tension. Not only is it good for stress relief – rolling every night can help define facial contours, boost circulation, stimulate collagen production and aid lymphatic draining to detoxify skin. We’re sold!
RRP: £39.99

3. The mess-free one…

Jolee Hydra-Glow Dry Sheet Mask
Hold on, a dry sheet mask that’s hydrating? Sounds counterintuitive, but hear us out. This waterless design is the latest innovation from Korean brand Jolee who really know their stuff when it comes to masks. If you find regular sheet masks messy, this dry-to-the-touch option will be a welcome change. The balm-like texture contains 87% actives, which give an instant glow after 15 minutes, and continue to treat skin for 8 hours afterwards. And the best part? You can reuse it up to three times after the first use.
RRP £12.99

4. The exfoliating one…

The Ordinary Peeling Solution
The Ordinary products are anything but ordinary, and this acid peeling masque is no different. The blood-red colour is a little unnerving to use, but the results are worth looking like a horror-movie victim for 10 minutes. The AHAs and BHAs resurface the skin for a brighter appearance and less congestion, even reducing the look of fine lines with continued use. As with all acids, try to use this mask in the evening, apply a sunscreen the next day and follow the directions carefully.
RRP: £6.30

5. The cooling one…

Skyn ICELAND Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels
A celebrity favourite, these refreshing eye gels get to work in just 10 minutes targeting puffiness and premature wrinkling in the under-eye area. Perfect for the morning after the night before, the cooling transdermal gel patch delivers potent active ingredients and Icelandic glacial water to firm, soothe and brighten. Eye patches have never sounded so chic.
RRP: £25

6. The fun one…

MasqueBAR Pretty Animals Sheet Masks
We all know it’s hard to look good wearing a sheet masque, so you may as well inject a little fun into the process with these selfie-worthy animal designs by MasqueBAR. Choose from calming panda, firming racoon or purifying penguin, along with a veritable zoo’s worth of other options.
RRP: £4.00

7. The professional-results one…

Foreo UFO
Looking for the next big thing in face masques? You’ve found it. This hand-held gadget is the talk of the beauty world thanks to its ability to fit a salon-worthy facial into a 90-second DIY treatment. The device works in conjunction with mini-masks that you attach directly to the pod, then the real action begins. It kicks off with light therapy (collagen-stimulating red, brightening green and blemish-zapping blue LED lasers), followed by pore-opening thermo-therapy and T-Sonic pulsations to push the active ingredients from the mask into the skin. Finally, cryo-therapy uses cold temperatures to minimise the appearance of pores, tighten and de-puff. Not bad for a minute and a half out of your day.

8. The natural one…

May Lindstrom Skin – the honey mud
Ready for a super-luxurious cleansing ritual? This gentle masque is made with raw honey, white Halloysite clay and aromatic plant oils to banish the day’s pollutants. Its unique, silky texture makes it a delight to use, while the active enzymes nourish, calm and balance skin leaving it baby-soft. It works as a cleanser (use a pea-sized amount on warm, damp skin and remove with a pad) or a masque (apply to clean, dry skin and leave for 10-20 minutes).
RRP £87

9. The under-eye one…

MasqueBAR Pure Gold Hydrogel Eye Mask
Dark circles, fine lines, puffiness – the under-eyes can be a problem area for most people, so it makes sense to try a masque specifically for that delicate area. Enter MasqueBAR’s gold eye masks. They’re easy-peasy to use and the hydrolised collagen helps improve skin elasticity too.  Plus, for those early mornings or plane journeys where you don’t have time for a full facemask, these comma-shaped alternatives can be a saviour.
RRP: £2.99

10. The jelly one…

Dior Hydra Life Glow Better Jelly Mask
For a light, summery mask, swap thick clay consistencies for lighter jelly formulas. We love the radiance-boosting Glow Better fresh jelly mask from Dior. The citrus fruit extracts give a light peel, while the water-rich texture reenergises the skin for an instantly plump, brightened complexion. Use 2-3 times a week for luminous skin that will see you through summer and beyond.
