It’s been one of the more unexpected trends in recent years; the insidious move of multiple piercings – ear, nose, the more adventurous – from punk to chic. Rare these days is the fashion editor who limits herself to a plain old pair of earrings, and a whole host of new words – tragus, rook, conch – have been added to the lexicon with such speed it would make Shakespeare’s head spin.
So where does one head to to get herself decorated? New York, unfortunately. Maria Tash, designer, jeweller and Grande Dame of the coolest piercing and tattoo parlour in NYC, is on speed-dial for all the cool girls – from Beyonce to Gwynnie to FKA Twigs – many of whom make the dash to the Big Apple just to see her. So, from London, quite an expensive accessory.
But, BUT! All hope is not lost, for (drum roll please) La Tash is is coming to town, in the shape of a ten day pop-up at – where else? – Liberty, starting today. She’s bringing a brand new collection, dubbed The London Edit, of stunning pieces with her, and her and her team will be seeing both pre-booked and walk-in London lasses, looking to join the pierced elite. Piercing itself costs from £15, and jewellery ranges from £60 – £6,000 – so when you think of what you’ve saved on return tickets across the pond, it’s actually a steal. Be there or be unforgivably square.
