Swilling, sniffing and sipping

Fancy yourself as something of a wine buff? Or perhaps you’re more of a wine bluff who always sticks to the second cheapest bottle? If you would like to learn whether to pair Sauvignon Blanc with your seafood, or to distinguish between a Muscat and a Merlot, then your chance is here: London Wine Week is soon upon us! From 2 to 8 June, we’re celebrating the Capital’s evolving wine scene and we’ll be swilling, sniffing, sipping, spitting (perhaps not!) and savouring our way through dusty wine cellars and classic hotel bars. Armed with a wristband (available now from London Wine Week), we will be sampling premium wines by the glass, wine flights, events, masterclasses and discounts at over 130 selected venues all over London.

Start off in one of the London Wine Week Hubs (The Wine Shop Hub at Harvey Nichols, The Riedel Hub in Kingly Court, or the Wines from Rioja Hub at Laithwaite’s, London Bridge), you can then mull around the Hubs for tastings and wine pairings, or venture further afield for tours and fine wine experiences. Take a Wine Tour – from One Kensington in the west to One Canada Square in the east – your wristband qualifies you for premium wines by the glass or a taster wine flight for £5. Independent retailers such as Borough Wines, Scoff & Banter, and Lea & Sandeman will be offering classes, taster sessions, and discounts all over London, too. And you can even download the free iPhone app, Publicity to check what’s going on where, and share your own experiences. Follow @LDNwineweek for regular updates and competitions. We think where wine is concerned, learning really is fun. (Hic!)
