Fusion cuisine isn’t a new concept, but we’re pretty sure we’ve never seen the combination of Japanese and Italian. That’s just what’s on offer at Tokyo Pizza, Maida Vale’s hottest new opening, though, and we can confirm it’s a winner. We say new, the underground spot actually opened earlier this year and almost immediately had to take a break over lockdown. It is now back up and running and has quickly established itself as a favourite among locals. Think pizza bases made from Japanese blended flour topped with the likes of Wagyu Tataki; salads of teriyaki glazed burrata with enoki mushrooms and edamame; and mochi pancakes for pud. All served, naturally, alongside a selection of chilled sake. Fun and casual, with slick interiors, funky soundtrack and a speak-easy vibe, we think it’s a great addition to the neighbourhood – go check it out.
