Mother's Day: Time for Tea

Mother’s Day 2020 saw my family gather together, and, as well as the normal chatter and gossip you’d expect from such an occasion, discussing – incredulously – the idea that this so-called Coronavirus was becoming ‘a thing’, and that we might actually be asked to stay at home and not see each other. Imagine! So, a year later, with the sadness of everything that’s been and gone combined with the newfound sense of optimism in the air that things might, finally, be looking up, it’s bittersweet that Mother’s Day 2021 falls just before the proposed lifting of restrictions that might finally allow us to see our beloved mums, or our darling daughters.

But let’s allow that optimism, which has been in such short supply, to win the day, and pull out all the stops to mark the occasion with an absolute corker of a gift that is, of course, Covid-friendly. Whilst a delivery of Afternoon Tea is not a brand new idea, this gorgeous offering from Brigit’s Bakery is most definitely our favourite version.

They’ve teamed up with Knightsbridge-based floristry fave Judith Blacklock to create a knock-out package of sumptuous sandwiches, delicious patisserie delicacies, beautiful blooms and a bottle of Champagne, all delivered to yours, or indeed your mama’s, door on Mothering Sunday itself. Yum.

And should you be won over (you will) by their goodies, it’s also worth bearing in mind their brilliant Bake Club for young, aspiring pastry chefs, teaching them to bake their favourite treats at home, with instructional videos, countless recipes and monthly ingredient delivery option. So for Mother’s Day 2022, it’ll be the little ones providing homemade cakes and the family all together again… see, we told you things were looking up!

Prices are £69 for two including a bouquet & half bottle of Champagne or £109 for two including large VIP bouquet and bottle of Champagne.

Delivery to WC2 is £10, Central London £20, and Greater London upon request; b-bakery.com
