Dreaming of a white January

The sun might be shining now, but with our boots still drying out from yesterday’s deluge, festive spirits are well and truly in danger of being dampened. Old Bing might still be dreaming of a White Christmas, but we think it’s looking increasingly unlikely – and our friends at the Beeb are suggesting that the only white thing about 25 December will be the cloud cover. So, as unusual as it is for us to wish the season away, we’re planning ahead for a little post Christmas powder (we’ll need something to take our minds off that back-to-reality funk, after all).

Last week marked the start of the 2013-2014 ski season at Cheval Blanc Courchevel, and, not content with being the most exclusive hotel in the Alps’ most exclusive ski resort, the team have come up with a new collection of treats and surprises for guests. Things like the pre-ski personal training sessions are definitely useful to ensure muscles are maintained for peak performance, but it’s attractions like 4 o’clock fun that have our name written all over them. Think husky drawn polar sledge rides and Hennessy cognac and black tea punch parties. Then there’s the slope-side BBQs, skiers’ afternoon teas and to-die-for hot choc with cinnamon, creamy tonka bean and hazelnut.

We’re probably most excited about the new spa area, though, complete with a range of exquisite Guerlain signature treatments. And because the wellbeing of guests is paramount to the Cheval Blanc team, they’ve even produced a special herbal nightime infusion to be placed in the hotel’s brand new suites to help them drift off to sleep. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves… first, the après ski at White Bar, with its Cigar Lounge in an oh-so-chic Mongolian Yurt. It promises to be the holiday of a lifetime – we can’t wait.
