December 2014 / Diary / by Charlea Glanville

Silence is golden

December theatre is the classic territory of pantomime and ballet, and while we’re all for a few he’s behind yous, the performance buff within is yearning for a more adult offering in between pirouettes and panto dames. And that’s just one reason we’ll be going to see The Sound Of Silence this week. An intimate portrayal of a young singer in 1920s Paris, exciting new theatre company AnOtherPlace will transform Apiary Studios into a Parisian jazz bar, interspersing short, sharp bursts of Jean Cocteau’s evocative tale of love and obsession with live music. Traditionally Christmassy it may not be, but The Sound of Silence is innovative, arresting, and certainly far more appealing than another round of The Nutcracker.

18 & 19 December, Apiary Studios, E2. Tickets £10 (bit.do/booktickets)
