To put it bluntly, we’re exhausted. With the advent rush of gift-buying, wrapping, decorating and meal prepping, it’s unsurprising that we haven’t left time to feel festive. Well it’s Fabvent to the rescue once more, bringing cinematic joy to squeeze into these last pre-Noël days. If a family trip to watch a Christmas classic doesn’t leave you screaming Mariah Carey lyrics, knocking back Baileys, and just generally emanating a golden, shiny, festive glow, then we don’t know what will.
On a rooftop terrace overlooking Hyde Park, there’s a pine-filled forest cinema that’s well worth going SW for: The Berkeley in Knightsbridge. Snuggle in a wooden chalet cabin under a cosy Moncler blanket, with hot chocolate in hand (and hot water bottle under jumper) as you watch classics like Miracle on 34th Street on a giant screen. Running until 31st December and with only six seats (and unlimited homemade mince pies) per showing, this rustic wonderland truly is London’s most exclusive winter cinema. Bragging rights totally permitted.
Packages from £55. (www.the-berkley.co.uk)
CINEMA IN THE SNOW
If you’re still dreaming of a white Christmas, there’s enough snow to rival Lapland right around the corner in our very own Notting Hill – at the 20th Century Theatre, no less. Throughout the festive season, the beautiful listed building will be transformed into a winter cinema filled with snow and only accessible through a Narnia-style wardrobe, providing a truly magical venue to screen Yuletide favourites such as It’s A Wonderful Life, Love Actually and even Frozen. Be afraid, we’ll be bringing our snowball-making A-game – and taking full advantage of the boozy hot chocolate on offer, of course.
From £20 for an adult ticket. (www.popupscreens.co.uk)
FILM & FIZZ
For the more sophisticated movie buff, indulge in a silver screen classic complete with a sumptuous three-course dinner, plush leather seating and a chilled glass of Lallier Grande Réserve champagne. Between the 12th and 21st December, One Aldwych will be showing White Christmas and It’s A Wonderful Life in their luxurious private screening room – the perfect location for an intimate, tasteful night of festive films and fizz. And for those who indulge too much in the latter, you can even combine your evening with an overnight stay in one of the hotel’s lavish rooms – complete with hangover-busting breakfast and a dip in the pool. You had us at “fizz”…
