Fabric, November 2008, Julianne Moore

The countdown has begun… the festivities are looming.

Have you made your lists yet? We’ve been busy here at Fabric central rounding up the best gifts and seasonal treats to help you take some of the stress out of giving (and deciding what you want to be given). Don’t miss our Festive guide in our latest offering.

Our November issue also brings you an insider’s guide to lovely, leafy Maida Vale and our exclusive compilation of the chicest ski wear (just in case we have another random snowstorm!). Foodies mustn’t miss Matthew Fort at The Ivy (you know it’s always wall to wall celebs, but what is the food actually like?) or our Child Rich… column, where our writer roadtests a home cookery lesson.

Our celebrity this month is the red-hot Julianne Moore. She’s fiery, she’s driven. She wears contact lenses. Find out what makes her tick in our exclusive interview.

And, of course, we’ve got some rather lovely properties for you to pore over. Whether you are buying, renting or renting out, there’s a dream home just waiting for you.

Interview: Julianne Moore

In person, Julianne Moore is surprisingly small and frail looking, but she is one tough, fearless lady who has made her name as the sexiest redhead on the big screen.

She’s survived for nearly two decades, since her first film in 1990 (Tales From the Darkside: The Movie) and has covered a startling range of roles in more than 40 films with four new ones in the pipeline…

We meet against the dazzling glamour of the Cannes Film Festival where she talks about her latest film, Blindness. Based on José Saramago’s Nobel prize-winning book, the film co-stars Mark Ruffalo, Danny Glover and Gael Garcia Bernal and is an apocalyptic fable about a plague of blindness which ravages the globe.

The film explores how society reacts in the face of extreme circumstances – in this case an outbreak of a mystery virus that causes blindness. As the epidemic spreads, panic and paranoia prevail as the afflicted are quarantined with only Moore’s character being able to see.

‘I never intended to act. Before I studied at Boston University for Performing Arts I wanted to be a professional, a doctor or a lawyer. When I started out as an actor, I flirted briefly with the stage but soon discovered that the financial rewards and my outlays failed to add up!’ Moore finally made her Broadway debut in 2006 in the David Hare play The Vertical Hour.
